City emphasizes expansive child and youth services for the coming half decade
In a significant move to secure the financial stability and improve the quality of youth services, Mayor Erik Lierenfeld of Dormagen has signed new contracts for Open Youth Work. These contracts will come into force on January 1, 2026, and will apply until the end of 2030.
The new contracts are designed to provide young people in Dormagen with reliable contact points and new content impulses. The Stadtmarketing- und Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Dormagen mbH (SWD) is collaborating with the city on these contracts, receiving support for the period from 2026 to 2030.
The focus of Open Youth Work in Dormagen will be on young people aged 14 and over. The existing offer will be aligned more strongly with this age group and expanded accordingly. Initially, four events per year are planned - one per quarter - to provide additional opportunities for leisure activities and promote encounters and participation.
The new contracts are expected to create more quality and flexible structures in Open Youth Work. The city has set aside an annual 'action pot' of 12,000 euros for providers to organize larger, cross-institutional events. The use of voluntary service performers is now explicitly supported, which is beneficial for smaller facilities.
Two facilities, the 'Micado' in Dormagen-Mitte and the 'Rübe' in Horrem, will benefit from this, as additional specialist staff can be employed. The new contracts also pave the way for the creation of new programs in the areas of culture, democracy promotion, and mental health, specifically addressing current social challenges.
A review will be conducted after three years to make any necessary adjustments to the new contracts. The signing of these new contracts lays the foundation for modern and future-oriented youth news in Dormagen, offering young people the opportunity to engage socially and gain experience in the social professional field.
