New Superintendent Dr. David Moore Takes the Reins at Coalinga-Huron Unified School District

Dr. David Moore, a seasoned educator with over three decades of experience, has been appointed as the new superintendent of the Coalinga-Huron Unified School District (CHUSD) as of mid-2025.

Dr. Moore's background in education has heavily focused on early literacy rates, a critical area he believes is key to addressing the low achievement levels in the district. He previously served as an assistant superintendent in the Santa Paula Unified School District and has held various administrative positions.

Recently, Dr. Moore shifted into an administrative role at an alternative education community day school. Now, he is getting acquainted with CHUSD and is finalizing his 100-day plan, which he hopes will capture a variety of voices from the district.

The CHUSD has been struggling academically, with the California School Dashboard indicating that the district was more than 85 points below standard for English Language Arts and about 118 points below standard in mathematics for the 23-24 school year.

Dr. Moore understands the need for healing in the district and encourages giving change a chance. He plans to hold listening sessions in both Coalinga and Huron with community and staff members to gather input and address the challenges faced by the district.

Updates about these listening sessions can be expected in the coming months through Parents Square and social media. Once the 100 days are up, Dr. Moore will be tasked with presenting a strategic plan to the board, a plan that will not be written in isolation but will be connected to the input and challenges he receives from the district.

Dr. Moore can be followed on Facebook, X, and Instagram for news updates about his work in CHUSD. His strategic plan is expected to focus on critical areas like literacy rates and strategic improvement plans, although specific details are yet to be announced.

For the most current information, it may be useful to check official CHUSD communications, district board meeting minutes, or contact the district office directly.

Dr. David Moore is married and has four children and four grandchildren. He applied for the superintendent position because he felt he had more to offer.

Dr. Moore's appointment comes after the previous superintendent, Lori Villanueva, parted ways with the district following nearly a year on administrative leave. Dr. Moore and his staff members recently had a retreat to learn about each other's skill strengths, marking the beginning of a new era for the Coalinga Huron Unified School District.

  1. Dr. David Moore, with his extensive background in education and focus on self-development, aims to address the low achievement levels in Coalinga-Huron Unified School District and improve education standards, as he believes in empowering students for a better future.
  2. As part of his 100-day plan, Dr. Moore plans to engage with the community, staff members, and students of CHUSD through listening sessions, strategic improvement plans, and collecting feedback to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to education and self-development.
