CEO of Westervelt Company appointed to Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences Board of Directors
The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences (ASHS) has announced the appointment of Cade Warner to its Board of Directors. Warner, President and CEO of The Westervelt Company, brings extensive corporate, civic, and philanthropic leadership to the ASHS Foundation.
The ASHS Foundation welcomed Warner, noting his family's legacy in western Alabama. The Westervelt Company, a 141-year-old family business formerly known as Gulf States Paper Corporation, specializes in sustainable forestry, wood products, ecological services, recreation, real estate, and natural resource conservation, with much of their portfolio residing in the region.
Warner's career progression within The Westervelt Company includes roles such as CEO, COO, Chief Sustainability Officer, Director of Business Development and Improvement, and Continuous Improvement Manager. His experience extends beyond the company, with service on national and industry boards including the Wood Products Council | WoodWorks, American Wood Council, National Alliance of Forest Owners, the Alabama Productivity Center, and various local boards such as the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Leadership Tuscaloosa, United Way of West Alabama's Young Leadership Society, Rotary International, World Forestry Center, the Tuscaloosa Rotary Foundation Board, and the University of Alabama's Culverhouse College of Business Board of Visitors.
Scott Huffman, President and CEO of the ASHS Foundation, described Warner as a natural fit for the foundation. "Cade's extensive experience and commitment to our region make him an ideal addition to our team," Huffman said.
Warner expressed excitement about joining the ASHS Foundation Board, stating that the school will provide high-quality education and create a powerful pipeline for healthcare workforce needs in rural communities. "I am thrilled to be a part of this innovative initiative that will have a lasting impact on our region," Warner said.
The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences is constructing the nation's first free, public, residential high school dedicated to preparing medical professionals. The 10-acre residential campus in Demopolis will open in August 2025, with the first freshman class set to arrive in August of 2026 at a separate "mini-campus" on the grounds of the University of West Alabama in Livingston. The permanent 10-acre residential campus in Demopolis is expected to open in fall of 2027.
Final decisions are currently being made on "healthcare career pathways and curricula" for ASHS, allowing for recruitment of faculty, staff, and students. A groundbreaking ceremony for the school is scheduled for next month.
