Park University is making headlines once again with a series of notable accomplishments and upcoming events.
Sophia Gunther, a recent graduate from the Class of 2021, is set to appear on "Shark Attack Files" on National Geographic. Meanwhile, David Radzynski, a graduate from the Park University International Center for Music, has been appointed as concertmaster of the prestigious Cleveland Orchestra.
In local news, Brittanie Propes, another Park University alumna from the Class of 2013, has been appointed as the first-ever director of websites and recreation for the City of Parkville, Missouri.
The university's Campanella Gallery will host a unique art exhibit titled "Vision Quest: A Journey of Seeing" from August 8 to October 28. Ilya Shmukler, a current graduate student at the International Center for Music, was recently interviewed for a recorded segment on Kansas Public Radio stations.
Academic achievements are also being celebrated. Kathy Howe, Ph.D., assistant professor of literacy education and director of the Watson Literacy Center, was interviewed for a story related to Buck O'Neil's induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. John Hamilton, Ph.D., professor emeritus of criminal justice administration, was interviewed about Kansas City area police departments evaluating security improvements.
Betty Johnson, a senior business administration/management major, was among the 300 recipients recognised for academic achievements through the KC Scholars program.
In administrative news, Michael Beach has been appointed as vice president of finance and administration for Park University, effective July 18. Rob Duggan, MPA '21, has started his role as chief of the Gilbert (Ariz.) Fire and Rescue Department.
Several Park University graduates have also made strides in their respective fields. Donovan Williams, '08, was appointed as a men's basketball assistant coach at Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
Looking ahead, Park University's Laughlin Air Force Base (Texas) Campus, Austin (Texas) Campus, Goodfellow Air Force Base (Texas) Campus / Lackland Air Force Base (Texas) Campus / Randolph Air Force Base (Texas) Campus will hold their commencement ceremonies on August 4, 5, and 6, respectively. The university's Gilbert (Ariz.) Campus will host the California Pacific Conference post-season tournaments for men's and women's basketball, and men's volleyball in 2023.
Martha Linscott, head coach of Park University's Parkville (Mo.) Campus men's and women's golf teams, qualified for the U.S. Senior Women's Open. The Parkville (Mo.) Commercial Underground was highlighted in a story on KCUR-FM (Kansas City) website.
Lastly, the Department of Nursing Programs at Park University is inviting third-party comments for its Accreditation Review.
With such a variety of accomplishments and events, Park University continues to shine as a hub of academic, professional, and community success.
