Mayor Alexander Putz Reads to Students on Storytelling Day
Last Thursday, Mayor Alexander Putz visited St. Nikola Middle School and State Realschule as part of the 20th annual nationwide Storytelling Day. The event marked a new focus in school work, aiming to strengthen reading skills and foster a love for reading.
In the specially set up reading corner at St. Nikola Middle School, Mayor Putz read to the 5th and 6th grade students from the award-winning children's and youth book "Rico, Oskar and the Deep Shadows" by David Walliams. The book captivated the students, who were so enthusiastic that they didn't want to let the mayor go.
Mayor Putz chose a particularly exciting passage from the novel to read, and after finishing, he answered the children's questions willingly. The children had ample opportunity to ask many questions, and the mayor was more than happy to answer them all.
At State Realschule, the focus was on "The Gangsta Grandma", a character from a book, and her passion for reading. The 5th grade listened to wonderful performances in a specially decorated German classroom. In addition to Mayor Alexander Putz, former principal and ministerial delegate Bernhard Aschenbrenner and Economic Development Officer of the City of Landshut, Michael Luger, were guests at State Realschule.
In the end, the students bid farewell to the mayor with a small gift. The idea of the two department heads, Karin Fuchs-Schuler and Marina Aufleger, to continue reading the book in class proved to be excellent, as it not only provided a fun and engaging learning experience but also helped to foster a love for reading in the students. Principal Alexandra Schuster-Grill stated that this was the start of a new focus in school work, and she was excited to see the positive impact it would have on the students.
