Park University Honours Convocation Highlights Outstanding Students and Faculty

The annual Honors Convocation at Park University, held on April 17, 2024, recognised several students and faculty members for their exceptional achievements.

In the realm of academics, seniors Annastasia Bair and Skyler Jensen shone brightly. Bair, a senior biology major from Omaha, Nebraska (attended Millard North High School), boasts a 4.01 cumulative grade point average and has been a Park University Presidential Scholar for the past three academic years. Her hard work and dedication have also earned her biology department honours in 2023.

Bair's counterpart, Skyler Jensen, a senior communications studies and multimedia journalism/public relations major from Earlham, Iowa (attended Earlham High School), has a 4.08 cumulative grade point average and has been a Park University Presidential Scholar for the same duration. In 2021, Jensen received a Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Award, and in 2023, Bair followed suit.

Jensen's talents extend beyond the classroom. In April 2024, he received a first place award in sports page writing and design at the Missouri College Media Association Conference, as well as eight additional individual or collaborative awards.

Two other students were recognised for their accomplishments. Zoe Franzen, a senior graphic design major from Lee's Summit, Mo. (attended Lee's Summit North High School), also received the Louisa Davidson Hinde / Carolyn Hinde Zarkaryan Memorial Award. Bryce Butler, a senior multimedia journalism/public relations major from Kansas City, Mo. (attended Oak Park High School), was another recipient of this prestigious award.

The Outstanding Parkite Award was bestowed upon both Bair and Jensen.

The faculty members were not left out of the celebration. Andrea Lee, Ph.D., associate professor of art and design and director of the Campanella Gallery from Liberty, Mo., received the J.L. Zwingle Award. Brian Hoffman, Ph.D., professor of biology from Kansas City, Mo., was honoured with the President's Award for Teaching Excellence. Amanda Norton-St. George, adjunct instructor of psychology from Gilbert, Ariz., received the Provost's Award for Teaching Excellence (for adjunct faculty). Jeff Kimmons, Ph.D., associate professor of biology from Kansas City, Mo., was recognised with the Excellence in Academic Advising Award.
