Expansion of Daycare Facilities in Nordhorn
The city of Nordhorn is considering several plans to expand its daycare facilities, aiming to address the growing demand for childcare services in the region.
One of the proposals under review is the expansion of an existing facility in the Deegfeld area by 3-4 groups. The specifics of this project, including a first cost estimate, will be provided in a draft resolution.
By the end of January 2019, a project in collaboration with GEWO could be implemented. This project involves the conversion of an existing property into a kindergarten with a nursery group and a regular group, providing 15 nursery and 25 regular places.
In the past five years, Nordhorn has created 180 nursery places, doubling the capacity for children under three years old. However, the utilization of kindergarten places is not subject to the same fluctuations and growth possibilities, as the coverage rate for the age group of 3-6 year olds in Nordhorn is already around 95%.
The administration is in contact with further interested parties and bearers who are still at the beginning of their considerations and plans for daycare facilities. Potential candidates for collaboration include experienced private providers of early childhood education who develop innovative concepts, as well as qualified educators such as state-certified kindergarten teachers, special education teachers, or childhood pedagogues. Cooperation with local educational professionals and organizations engaged in child care and early education is also being considered.
In the Stadtflur area, a proposal for a new facility with 4-5 groups is being considered, which would provide 30-40 nursery places and 50 regular places. The facility could potentially start operating at the beginning of the 2019/20 kindergarten year. Initial discussions have been held with a potential carrier for the facility in the Südufer building area.
Additionally, a 4-5 group facility is being considered for construction in the area between Fr.-Ebert-Str. and Bentheimer Str., with a suitable plot of land identified for the project.
Councilwoman Marlies Schomakers announced a comprehensive proposal for expanding daycare places in Nordhorn will be presented on 04.06.2018.
The Haus für Kinder will increase the number of places in the afternoon group from 10 to 25 by the start of the next kindergarten year. Furthermore, discussions are being held to explore possibilities for offering nursery places in peripheral villages, although a serious estimate of the timeframe cannot currently be given.
It's important to note that the city of Nordhorn does not typically support parents who find a nursery or kindergarten place in another municipality financially, but individual decisions may be made in such cases.
Finally, a new kindergarten with 5-6 groups on the grounds of the Hof Diekmann is planned for a start in January 2019, with completion expected at the beginning of the 2020/21 kindergarten year. An expansion of a nursery group with 15 places at the KITA St. Marien is also planned for completion by the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second quarter of 2019.
The administration cannot currently give a satisfying answer to parents who, despite all measures, do not receive a care place. However, the city is ready to provide suitable premises for further large daycare facilities at favorable terms for daycare mothers, which could create up to 30-40 places for the large daycare model.
Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments in Nordhorn's daycare facilities.
