Woodland Hall at Oberlin College to Open This Month

After a summer of hard work and dedication, the new 402-bed residence hall at Oberlin College, Woodland Hall, is set to welcome students this month. The construction, which has been marked by the addition of a new parking lot, landscaping, and the installation of siding, is nearing completion.

The new parking lot has been poured and striped, providing ample parking space for residents and visitors. The construction crew is currently working on installing siding, a combination of brick and fiber cement panels, on the south- and east-facing facades of Woodland Hall. This work will continue until mid-October, with the west-facing courtyard also undergoing siding installation.

Despite an unexpected delay due to a problem with the waterproof layer applied to the building prior to bricklaying, the contractor has rectified the issue at their expense. The impact on Woodland Hall's timetable for opening was minimized through the allocation of additional crews and expanded construction hours during summer.

To ensure privacy during the construction period, windows facing active construction areas will be covered with privacy film. This film allows in natural light but obscures visibility from outside. It will be removed when construction is completed. All active construction areas will be clearly fenced off during this time.

Residents of Woodland Hall will receive an email with move-in guidelines. Questions about move-in can be directed to reslife@our website. Stay tuned for details on grand-opening festivities.

Located near the athletics complex, Woodland Hall's landscaping will be completed in the coming weeks, with additional landscaping planned for early fall. Work around the building will be confined to limited hours to minimize disruption to students.
